About Joel Rosenwasser

About Joel Rosenwasser

Joel Rosenwasser, founder of Engraving Technologies, Inc., is a sixth-generation jeweler.  A student of aerospace engineering, computer science and mathematics at the University of Texas, he was an early specialist in field of Artificial Intelligence, working with early pioneers in the field doing post-graduate research and application development.

Joel is a United States patent holder, inventing the process of lasers to engrave images into all types of gemstones.  His innovative products were first featured on QVC, HSN and the Franklin Mint.  He then worked with gemological laboratories across the globe, engraving certification serial numbers on jewelry for the first time in the jewelry industry.  His pioneering work was sought after by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), International Gemological Institute (IGI), European Gem Laboratories (EGL), and many others.

Joel then created and founded ETI Jewelry Services and Diamond and Gem Laboratories of America.  He was the first to envision and implement a company to integrate Certification, QA/QC Services, Laser Engraving and Shop Services.  He designed and oversaw implementation of the laboratory and lab software, and then expanded to Mumbai, India.  He continues to create the most efficient methodologies for QA/QC processes in the industry.

His jewelry roots date back to 19th century Kiev where his great-great grandfather worked.  His great grandfather emigrated to Milwaukee where he became a very prominent diamond retailer, eventually moving to New York and settling in Chicago where his family established one of the preeminent stores in the jewelry district.  His other relatives emigrated to Paris and Berlin, opening jewelry establishments there.  His cousin, Youla Chapoval, a prominent French artist, was a protégé of Pablo Picasso, and was awarded the Kandinsky Award in 1949.

At the forefront of laser technology, Joel was the first to bring laser-engraving services en masse to the gem, jewelry and watch industry for certification, serial numbers, trade/hall-marking, and decorative imagery.

Truly making its mark on history, Engraving Technologies has been the master engraver-of-choice for important gifts of recognition, like the watches presented to NBA Champions, draft picks and All Stars, NASCAR champions, and NASA astronauts.

Joel’s handiwork also can be found engraved on special gifts of recognition to notable public figures like President Bill Clinton and First Lady Laura Bush; celebrities from Robert DeNiro and Matt Damon to Paula Abdul and Suzanne Somers; and sports icons, including Tiger Woods, Serena Williams and Cal Ripkin, Jr.
